ARSENAL LOOK TO SPEND

After years of signing only young players and trying to avoid star names, Arsenal are finally looking to break their policy by showing tremendous interest in the likes of Wayne Rooney, Luis Suarez and Gonzalo Higuain. The club were extremely close to signing Higuain before the Argentine ace was signed by Italian club Napoli for around £ 35 million. Arsenal were left extremely disappointed as a result of this missed opportunity to bring in a star name. They made an offer of around £ 25 million for Higuain, which left the opportunity for Napoli to enter into the race.

Arsenal have also been showing interest in Wayne Rooney as well. The Manchester United ace has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford, but his astronomical wages could prove to be a problem for Arsenal who have a strict wage structure. Yet again, Wenger has surprised everyone by saying that the club will certainly not have any problems in matching Rooney’s astronomical wages of £ 200,000 per week. Only recently, they made an offer of £ 40 million for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez. Such interest in the top names is a clear sign that Arsenal want to progress according to striker Oliver Giroud.

He scored 17 goals for Arsenal last season and has said that he has no worries about competition for his position.

“We need to show ambition and the offer for Suarez has done that. The club has to show the fans that we mean business. Me and my team-mates, need it as well. It will be a really positive thing if we have a new striker. The whole team is stronger now than it was a year ago. Last season’s new players are all more established. And we’ve lost nobody this summer, which is the first time for Arsenal in maybe four years,” said Giroud.
